FAQs
What is the “Lawyers for the Rule of Law” initiative?
Lawyers for the Rule of Law is a non-partisan effort by attorneys across the United States who are concerned about recent attacks on the judicial system. We have drafted The Statement calling on the President to comply with court orders, respect the judiciary as a co-equal branch of government, and cease rhetoric and actions that undermine the courts’ legitimacy and independence.
Is this a partisan political initiative?
No. This initiative is explicitly non-partisan and focuses solely on protecting constitutional principles that have traditionally been supported across the political spectrum. Our signatories include attorneys who identify as conservative, liberal, and independent. We take no position on policy matters beyond the relationship between the executive branch and the judiciary.
Who is organizing this effort?
This effort is being organized by a diverse group of attorneys who are concerned about preserving judicial legitimacy and the rule of law. Our organizing committee includes attorneys from different political backgrounds, practice areas, and regions of the country, united by our commitment to our oath to defend the Constitution.
What is the goal of this initiative?
Our primary goal is to send a clear message that the legal community, regardless of political affiliation, stands united in defense of the judicial branch. By gathering signatures from thousands of attorneys nationwide, we seek to demonstrate that respect for the judiciary is a fundamental Constitutional principle, not a partisan position.
